Green Community Solutions focuses on three thematic areas: climate and environmental literacy, climate and environment research, and participatory environment and climate resilience community projects.
Green Community Solutions leads climate change and environmental literacy in Gauteng. This includes training local authority leaders on climate and environmental legislation and their roles in ensuring environmental protection. It involves mainstreaming climate literacy in schools and tertiary institutions. The organization aims to make climate literacy a key module in schools to build a well-informed generation.
Green Community Solutions conducts research on critical environmental issues. In partnership with universities, we investigate the impact of mining on freshwater bodies, plastic pollution in low-income communities, the influence of climate literacy on resilience building, and biodiversity conservation strategies in fragile environments. To date, we have completed three research projects addressing these concerns.
Green Community Solutions drives policy influence through participatory projects in communities. These include urban gardens, waste management, urban corridor biodiversity protection, and participatory policy development. We have successfully influenced policy formulation in the Vaal Region.
